Convenience stores, have brought huge changes to China, not only in terms of economics, but also in the shaping of the built environment. According to available statistics, convenience stores have maintained positive growth in China over ten consecutive years. This means that in every Tier 1 or Tier 2 city, dozens or even hundreds of new convenience stores are added every year. Their rapid growth has brought about earth-shaking changes in the city's shopping space. At the same time, the theory of the 15-minute city has become a hot topic of discussion, and people have new plans and ideas about the city and neighbourhoods.
This dissertation discusses what the rapid growth of convenience stores brings to the lives of residents, and what it brings to urban space from the perspective of the 15-minute city. Looking at the city of Xi’an, I use GIS software and the theory of spatial syntax to analyse the spatial distribution of convenience stores, and whether they can meet the 15-minute walking standard. The conclusion is positive. On the basis of these research results, suggestions are made for the future development of convenience stores in Chinese cities and the construction of 15-minute cities.
